The name of this herb has been known since ancient Greece, which comes from the words "oros" - mountain and "ganos" - ornament, i.e. its name literally means "mountain ornament". The sweet smell of oregano was once so famous that Aphrodite considered it a symbol of happiness. The Greeks especially appreciated its scent after bathing, when they used it as an aromatic oil to massage the forehead and the head.

How to use

Dried İzmester oregano can be used widely for seasoning: cold roasts, salads, sauces and fish. It goes well with roasted meats, including veal, pork, and lamb, but also with thick soups or fried potatoes.

It goes perfectly with pizza, pasta dishes, spaghetti or Italian cuisine in general. It is also used in Spanish and Mexican cuisine. Dried İzmester oregano can also be used to season vegetables (tomatoes, peas, beans, salad), cheese and seafood. It is a perfect companion to basil, marjoram, thyme and pepper, with which it harmonizes perfectly as a component of various spice mixes.

Season the meat with oregano at the very end of cooking, preferably 10 minutes before the end.
