This plant is native to the southeastern Mediterranean and South Asia. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it was sprayed on the floors of houses - used as a "home deodorant". Currently, the oil produced from the upper parts of the plant is also used in the cosmetics industry. The raw material of the seasoning is harvested during the flowering period. There are whole dried plants and crumbled marjoram, which consists of only inflorescences and leaves. Marjoram is grown in all warm and temperate countries of the world.
How to use
It is ideal for flavoring heavier, fattier dishes, such as meats, sausages, legumes, hearty potato soups and cabbage dishes. Due to its taste and smell, it can also be used for sauces and salads.
