This plant is native to the southeastern Mediterranean and South Asia. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it was sprayed on the floors of houses - used as a "home deodorant". Currently, the oil produced from the upper parts of the plant is also used in the cosmetics industry. The raw material of the seasoning is marjoram harvested during the flowering period. There are whole dried plants and crumbled marjoram, which consists only of inflorescences and leaves. Marjoram is grown in all warm and temperate countries of the world.
How to use
Marjoram is one of the most commonly used spices. An indispensable addition to sauces and salads. It is a permanent ingredient of some soups: pea, bean, and potato soup. Another way to use marjoram is to spice up sausages and sausage fillings, roast duck or goose stuffing. Marjoram is often used in combination with thyme – these two spices work well together.
