Kebab, or döner kebab in full, is a dish of Turkish origin, meaning "rotating meat", which is traditionally made from lamb. It is already written about in an 18th-century Ottoman cookbook, although at that time the rotisserie was still placed horizontally. The outer, fried and crispy layer of meat is thinly sliced ​​and served hot in a pita, with various garnishes of tomatoes, lettuce and cabbage.

Gyros is a Greek dish, but the method was probably adopted from Turkish cuisine because the dish is very similar to kebab.
