Cloves, used as a spice, are flower buds collected just before flowering and then dried, which belong to the spicy myrtle family. The shape of the buds resembles a nail, hence the name cloves.
How to use
The whole cloves are used in wines, liqueurs, as well as marinades and meat products. Americans put cloves in their fried ham. Germans use it as an addition to spiced bread.
Cloves are an excellent flavoring for compotes, sauces, mushroom or fish marinades, and roasts. Together with onions and bay leaves, we recommend it with red cabbage. Ground cloves are an important ingredient in gingerbread and various other fragrant cakes.
